This project was created to tie in with my monthly Facebook challenge of Lava. The challenge was to create anything related to lava and this was my attempt.

To create the texture of the volcano, I used multi-purpose filler, you can use art texture paste, wall filler, wood filler, or any other substance that will dry hard and that sticks to wood.

The board and filler were then sealed with two coats of wood primer and left to dry overnight. The next day, I painted the board black with black acrylic paint, making sure to get the paint deep into the crevices of the texture. Again, this was left to dry overnight.

Mixing some red paste into the resin, I then proceeded to fill the cracks of the volcano, before moving on to the sky. I went with a steel pigment in the resin, to give the impression of an ash-filled sky.

To give more texture and depth to the bottom of the volcano, I mixed some of the red resin in with some black crushed glass and applied it to the bottom of the board.

Next, I pour some clear resin at the top of the volcano and then poured the rest of the red resin. This was so that when I blew the resin with my heat gun, the red would sit on the top of the grey and create some cells and lacing.

Finally, I used the acrylic diamonds to create the explosion at the top of the volcano, these were to represent the debris that has erupted out of the volcano.
