Watercolour painting on an Ampersand Claybord and scratched to show the details of the feathers. The artwork is mounted on a cream matt board to show off the thickness of the board and is framed in a thick silver frame. UV glass has been used to not only protect the artwork from moisture, dust and scratches but to reduce the glare on the glass, allowing for a better view of the artwork.
Kookaburra
The kookaburra is a relative of the kingfisher and is native to Australia and New Guinea. The kookaburra symbolises laughter and happiness, after its call which sounds like laughter. They are intelligent and social animals, they mate for life and both parents are known to tend to their young. They can become quite tame and have been known to come up close at picnics, looking for a handout or two.
This was painted from my own reference photo.
